Our good friend came over Saturday night and living up to the title good friend brought over a bag of Intense Pickle Doritos. This delighted me seeing I hadn’t tried the flavour before and it gave me another snack to ramble about on this blog which is what we’re all here for, right?
I had noticed this flavour at the store before and thought to myself, “Doritos, what are you doing? Pickle goes fine with potato chips but not tortilla chips. Get back to me when you decide to bring Buffalo Wing and Blue Cheese flavour back”. I would have looked a tad silly if I had said it out loud.
Anyway, this was one I had thought I would pass on but the opportunity presented itself to try them out. Opening up the bag they smell a bit like Cool Ranch Doritos with a hint of pickle. Definitely not as strong as a bag of Dill Pickle chips. One thing I like about Doritos is they don’t lie to me. These chips are Bursting with Flavour as the bag claims and are most definitely intense! To my surprise, I actually kind of like them even though I don’t like dill pickle chips.

Matching the initial smell, they do taste a lot like Cool Ranch Doritos but with a crazy tangy pickle flavour that gives your tongue a little punch. I had to refer to the ingredients list to see how these very flavourful chips are made up. They have onion, garlic, cheese and tomato flavours to stand as the background to support the pickle flavour which is “extractives of dill and cucumber”. I noticed sugar is also listed in the flavour make up which explains why they are quite sweet.
Overall, I’m pleasantly surprised! This is a very interesting flavour that needed to be tried and makes me feel a bit foolish for turning my nose at them. That being said I can only have about a handful at a time because the flavour is so intense but I think pickle fans would eat this one up, literally. Oh and just as I’ll recommend with Cool Ranch, proceed to brush your teeth after these guys; intense flavour = good, intense breath = gross.
